Urgent Appeal: Donate to Support Afghanistan Earthquake Survivors
Late on Sunday night, a powerful 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan near Jalalabad, devastating remote areas of Kunar and Nangarhar provinces. The disaster has killed at least 800 people and injured more than 2,800, with entire mud-brick villages reduced to rubble. Rescue efforts are severely hampered by blocked roads, landslides, and inaccessible terrain, leaving families stranded without help. While helicopters and emergency teams are on the ground, the challenges remain immense. The UN, WHO, and humanitarian organisations are urgently calling for global assistance. Survivors are in desperate need of medical aid, clean water, food, and emergency shelter. 💙 You can help today — please donate now to the Afghanistan Earthquake Emergency Appeal and support life-saving relief for families in crisis.
Why This Earthquake Is So Severe
The quake struck at a shallow depth of just 8 kilometres beneath the surface, making the impact even more destructive. Adding to the crisis, flooding in Kunar and neighbouring Nangarhar just days earlier had already damaged homes and infrastructure. Now, thousands are facing the double disaster of floods and an earthquake.
A desperate search for survivors is on after a powerful earthquake killed at least 1400 people and wounded nearly 3,000 others in eastern Afghanistan.
Several villages in the impoverished country’s Kunar province have been wiped off the map after the magnitude 6.0 quake, with its epicentre some 27km (17 miles) northeast of Jalalabad in Nangarhar province, struck at about midnight on Sunday.
On 1 September, a 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck Kunar province in eastern Afghanistan, killing more than 600 people and injuring over 2,500. Entire mud-brick villages have collapsed, leaving families homeless, while blocked roads and landslides have trapped survivors in remote areas. Helicopters are being used to evacuate the critically injured, but rescue efforts face immense challenges.

The disaster comes after recent flooding that had already weakened infrastructure, compounding the devastation. Survivors are in urgent need of medical care, food, clean water, shelter, and psychological support. With widespread poverty, drought, and reduced humanitarian funding already straining communities, the earthquake has pushed families to the edge. Immediate international support is vital to save lives.

Remote districts in Kunar (Nur Gal, Sawki, Watpur, Manogi, Chapa Dara) and parts of Nangarhar are among the hardest hit.
It struck at a shallow depth of 8 km, causing extreme damage. Recent flooding had already weakened homes and infrastructure.
Blocked roads, landslides, and remote terrain make it difficult to reach survivors. Some areas are only accessible by helicopter or foot.
Survivors need medical care, clean water, food, shelter, and trauma support, especially for children and mothers.
